Mount Moroto is more than just a mountain; it's part of the rich history and cultural heritage of Karamoja, a region in northeastern Uganda where traditions have been passed down through generations. The area is home to the Karimojong people, whose way of life has long been shaped by cattle keeping, strong community ties and a deep connection to the land. Cattle are central to Karimojong culture, representing wealth, family heritage and social status. Traditional homesteads, colourful beadwork, energetic dances, storytelling and traditional songs all offer a glimpse into a culture that has remained distinctive through generations. The mountain is also home to the Tepeth people, a community with its own unique cultural identity and traditions.
