About This Hike

Mount Kadam is one of Uganda's best kept mountain secrets. Rising to 3,063 metres in the heart of Karamoja, it offers a rewarding climb through local farms, mountain forests, and open ridgelines before reaching a summit with breathtaking views in every direction. Spend a night under a sky full of stars, watch the sun set beyond Lake Kyoga, and wake up to a sunrise you'll never forget. Whether it's your first mountain or your tenth, Kadam is the kind of hike that reminds you why you fell in love with the outdoors in the first place.

The Route

The expedition begins with a drive from Kampala to Nakapiripirit, where we spend the night before the hike. On the second day, we start with a community walk through the farms at the foot of Mount Kadam before ascending to our campsite at 2,350 metres. The afternoon is yours to soak in sweeping views of Karamoja, with Mount Elgon, Mount Napak, and Mount Moroto visible on the horizon. As evening falls, we watch the sun disappear beyond Lake Kyoga, enjoy dinner at camp, and end the day beneath a sky filled with stars. Day three starts with a beautiful sunrise at 6:00 am, followed by breakfast and an early summit push. After reaching the summit, we descend back to camp for our final night on the mountain. On the last day, we enjoy one more sunrise, have breakfast, descend to Nakapiripirit, and begin the journey back to Kampala.

History & Culture

For generations, Mount Kadam has been part of the lives of the communities that live on its slopes. Long before hikers began exploring it, the mountain provided water, fertile land, medicinal plants, and a place of refuge. Today, it remains one of Karamoja's best-kept secrets a mountain that has changed very little over the years and continues to offer the same sense of adventure to everyone who climbs it.
