About This Hike

The Karamoja 3 Mountain Challenge is our ultimate hiking expedition through the wild heart of northeastern Uganda, taking you to the summits of Mount Moroto, Mount Kadam, and Mount Napak in one unforgettable journey. Over the course of the expedition, you'll hike through forests, rugged ridgelines, open grasslands, and rocky peaks, while experiencing the beauty, culture, and silence that make Karamoja unlike anywhere else in the country. Every mountain has its own personality, every summit offers a different view, and every day brings a new adventure. Whether you're looking to challenge yourself, tick off three incredible mountains, or simply discover a side of Uganda that few people ever get to see, the Karamoja 3 Mountain Challenge is an experience you'll remember long after you've left the trails.

The Route

The expedition begins with a drive from Kampala to Mount Napak, where we spend the night before summiting our first mountain. We then continue to Mount Moroto for the second summit before heading to Mount Kadam, where we hike to the lower camp, summit on the following day, and descend before returning to Kampala. Over six days, you'll experience three unique mountains, mountain camping, breathtaking landscapes, and the wild beauty of Karamoja. A detailed day-by-day itinerary will be shared with all confirmed participants after booking.

History & Culture

For generations, the mountains of Karamoja have stood as silent guardians over northeastern Uganda, shaping the lives, traditions, and identity of the communities that call this region home. Long before they became hiking destinations, Mount Moroto, Mount Kadam, and Mount Napak were places of cultural significance, used by local communities for grazing, gathering medicinal plants, and spiritual practices. Today, these peaks remain among Uganda's most untouched mountains, offering hikers not only the challenge of reaching three summits but also the rare opportunity to walk through a landscape where nature, history, and culture have remained deeply connected for centuries.

Myths & Stories

For centuries, the people of Karamoja have regarded these mountains with great respect, believing they are home to ancestral spirits and sacred places that should be approached with humility. Elders tell stories of hidden caves, mysterious rock formations, and peaks where prayers were offered during times of drought, conflict, and celebration. Some believe the mountains watch over the land and its people, serving as silent protectors of Karamoja. While these stories differ from one community to another and are rooted in oral tradition, they continue to shape the deep cultural connection between the people of Karamoja and the mountains that define their homeland.
